Did you know that you do not need to join the 8am rush to get a GP appointment when it comes to some common ailments. See the attached document on the Common Ailments Scheme for more information.
There will be a road closure on the B4314 between Eastpool Farm and Rhonda House for 12 days starting on Monday 17th November. This is for Openreach to carry out some fibre work.
If you see incidents of speeding including exceeding the 20mph limit within designated areas, please report it as soon as possible to GoSafe. https://www.gosafe.org/report/ If incidents are not reported they cannot do anything about them. The more reports they receive, the more likely they are to take action, including active monitoring of the area themselves and potentially prosecution of offending drivers.
Community Details
Eglwyscummin is a community and electoral ward situated within the south western boundary of the county of Carmarthenshire.
It is made up of four wards, Upper Ciffig, Lower Ciffig, Eglwyscummin and Marros.
The main residential settlement is Red Roses which lies alongside the main A477 road leading to south Pembrokeshire. This is the main traffic route for vehicles using the ferry terminal at Pembroke Dock. The B4314 from Tavernspite to Pendine passes through Red Roses.
The area is renowned for the good quality of its agricultural land and there are several medium to large dairy units within the wards.
The Eglwyscummin Community Association is an active charitable organisation based at the Community Hall in Red Roses where they hold various classes, social events and offer a weekly lunch for over 60’s.
There are two public Houses, The Sporting Chance Red Roses and The Green Bridge Inn Pendine. Other attractions include a horse riding centre, a shooting range and restaurant, a farm with a pizzeria and its own ice cream, and a National Autograss track.
Holiday accommodation is available at several camping and caravan parks and holiday cottages including a holiday complex offering self-catering accommodation specially adapted for wheelchair users. These are all well located for access to Carmarthenshire’s and Pembrokeshire’s holiday attractions. Also based in the ward is Bysiau Cwm Taf. The company is well known throughout Wales for its coach holidays and excursions.
Places of worship include Ciffig parish Church, the grade 1 listed St Margaret Marloes and St Lawrence’s Church Marros . Unfortunately services are no longer held at Marros. It is believed that the present building at St Margaret’s church dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries. A tombstone dating back to the 5th century was found in the churchyard. All the churches are listed buildings and there are 9 other listed monuments in the parishes. There had been a primary school at Tremoilet for approximately 200 years but this was closed in 2018.
